Stellar Development Foundation has decided to delay the planned protocol 20 upgrade. The move comes after feedback from the ecosystem’s participants, including wallet developers, tools builders, and contract developers.
Thus, the cryptocurrency project will disarm validators, preventing them from the scheduled Jan 30 voting. The procedure will continue after bug fixing. Further, Stellar highlighted a diverse consensus for the planned transition and the need for everyone to be ready.
“As the network introduces the biggest protocol change to date, it’s important to have broad consensus at the vote, but also in the lead up to it – everyone needs to be ready.”
Minor bug leads to the delayed upgrade
Notably, the Stellar Development Foundation notified participants about a bug (in Stellar CoreV20.1.0) on Jan 25. The error could affect services and applications after upgrading to protocol 20. While that was a minor obstacle, as the bug posed a tiny risk, the team decided to delay the upgrade and involve all players.
Validators and the community will remain liable for Protocol 20 upgrade decisions. They will either continue with the upgrade once they hit a quorum or maintain protocol 19 until further notice.
Stellar Development Foundation will engage with other validators as the bug fixing continues. The project will plan a future date for voting if players decide to defer the upgrade. The voting will progress until a bug-free Stellar Core version launches within the next two weeks.
While this development was somewhat crucial, XLM’s response seems muted. The altcoin saw a slight 0.40% dip over the past 24 hours to trade at $0.1156. The alt will likely mirror broad market price movements as the community await further clarification about the anticipated Protocol 20 upgrade.
