Stock Higher as Earnings Season Beings

First Look

Stocks are higher ahead of the bell Tuesday. Earnings seasons begins today with mixed results as Citigroup (C), Goldman Sachs (GS), JPMorgan Chase & Co (JPM), and Wells Fargo (WFC) all reported quarterly earnings before the open. Citigroup, Goldman Sachs, and Wells Fargo are all down in the pre-market, while JPMorgan is higher by 1.7%. President Trump announced plans to sanction Turkey Monday in response to the country's military offensive against Syria and has called for an immediate ceasefire. The Dow Jones is up 0.31%, the S&P 500 is up 0.29%, the Nasdaq is up 0.21%.

Stocks on the Move

JPMorgan Chase & Co. (JPM), Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) and NVIDIA Corporation (NVDA) are moving higher this morning, while Freeport-McMoRan Inc (FCX), Goldman Sachs Group Inc (GS) and Twitter Inc (TWTR) are headed lower. Lowe's Companies, Inc. (LOW), Pacific Biosciences of California (PACB) and DCP Midstream LP Unit (DCP) were upgraded by analysts this morning, while Allegheny Technologies Incorporated (ATI), Terex Corporation (TEX) and Wheaton Precious Metals Corp (WPM) were downgraded.

International Markets

Stocks in Asia are mixed. The Nikkei 225 is up 1.87%, the Mumbai Sensex is up 0.76%, the Australia ASX All Ordinaries is up 0.08% the Hang Seng is down -0.07% and the Shanghai SE Composite Index is down -0.56%. In Europe stocks are mixed. The Euro Stoxx 50 is up 0.46%, the CAC 40 is up 0.43%, the DAX is up 0.29% and the FTSE 100 is down -0.28%.

Futures & Currencies

Energy futures are down today. The price for West Texas Intermediate crude oil is down -0.41 at 53.19 per barrel. Brent crude is down -0.31 at 59.05 per barrel. Natural Gas is down -0.01 at 2.28. Precious metals are mixed this morning. Gold is down -0.24 at 1492.97 per ounce. Platinum is up 0.67 at 894.03 while silver is down -0.05 at 17.66. The dollar is mixed compared to the major currencies today. The greenback is up against the euro, down against the Yen and down against the Pound.

Put/Call Ratio

Yesterday, 847,645 call contracts traded on the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) compared to 656,572 put contracts. The single-session put/call was 0.77 while the 20-day moving average is now at 0.67.
