Markets Quiet Before the Open

First Look

Markets are quiet Wednesday morning, with major indices relatively unchanged ahead of the bell. Shares of HP Inc. (HPQ) stock are higher by 7.7% in the pre-market after the Wall Street Journal reported Xerox Holdings Corp. (XRX) is considering a for the $27 billion cash-and-stock offer for the company. Walgreens Boots Alliance (WBA) is higher by 1.6% this morning after reports by Bloomberg and Reuters Tuesday that it is considering a going-private transaction. Weight Watchers (WW) stock is down 15.1% after the company reported quarterly earnings, beating earnings per share estimates but missing revenue expectations. The Dow Jones is up 0.11%, the S&P 500 is up 0.09%, the S&P 500 is up 0.09%.

HP Inc (HPQ), Davita Inc (DVA) and Devon Energy Corp (DVN) are moving higher this morning, while Diamondback Energy Inc (FANG), Microchip Technology Inc. (MCHP) and Centurylink Inc (CTL) are headed lower. Lowe's Companies, Inc. (LOW), Invesco Ltd. (IVZ) and BlackRock, Inc. (BLK) were upgraded by analysts this morning, while Autohome Inc (ATHM), KeyCorp (KEY) and Centurylink Inc (CTL) were downgraded.

International Markets

Stocks in Asia are mixed. The Mumbai Sensex is up 0.55%, the Nikkei 225 is up 0.22%, the Hang Seng is up 0.02% the Shanghai SE Composite Index is down -0.43% and the Australia ASX All Ordinaries is down -0.56%. In Europe stocks are up. The CAC 40 is up 0.36%, the Euro Stoxx 50 is up 0.28%, the DAX is up 0.14% and the FTSE 100 is up 0.08%.

Futures & Currencies

Energy futures are mixed today. The price for West Texas Intermediate crude oil is down -0.21 at 57.02 per barrel. Brent crude is down -0.36 at 62.6 per barrel. Natural Gas is flat 0 at 2.86. Precious metals are mixed this morning. Gold is up 2.43 at 1486.04 per ounce. Platinum is down -4.59 at 924.48 while silver is down -0.11 at 17.46. The dollar is down compared to the major currencies today. The greenback is down against the euro, down against the Yen and down against the Pound.

Put/Call Ratio

Yesterday, 1,589,516 call contracts traded on the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) compared to 1,227,352 put contracts. The single-session put/call was 0.77 while the 20-day moving average is now at 0.67.
