Constructive Trade Talks Boost Markets

First Look

Major indices are up to start the week Monday morning. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer continued trade negotiations over the weekend, speaking with China's Vice Premier Liu He Saturday. Talks were described as "constructive" by the Chinese Commerce Ministry, with both sides seemingly willing to make concessions after core concerns were addressed and agreeing to stay in close communication. The Dow Jones is up 0.33%, the Nasdaq is up 0.32%, the S&P 500 is up 0.23%.

Stocks on the Move

Westrock Co (WRK), Micron Technology, Inc. (MU) and Ford Motor Company (F) are moving higher this morning, while Xerox Holdings Corp (XRX), MONDELEZ INTERNATIONAL INC Common Stock (MDLZ) and HP Inc (HPQ) are headed lower. Rockwell Automation (ROK), ViaSat, Inc. (VSAT) and Owens Corning (OC) were upgraded by analysts this morning, while ANCHIANO THERAP/S ADR (ANCN), Amarin Corporation plc (AMRN) and Cango Inc - ADR (CANG) were downgraded.

International Markets

Stocks in Asia are mixed. The Hang Seng is up 1.35%, the Shanghai SE Composite Index is up 0.62%, the Nikkei 225 is up 0.49% the Mumbai Sensex is down -0.18% and the Australia ASX All Ordinaries is down -0.39%. In Europe stocks are mixed. The FTSE 100 is up 0.37%, the Euro Stoxx 50 is down -0.03%, the CAC 40 is down -0.06% and the CAC 40 is down -0.06%.

Futures & Currencies

Energy futures are down today. The price for West Texas Intermediate crude oil is down -0.29 at 57.43 per barrel. Brent crude is down -0.32 at 62.98 per barrel. Natural Gas is down -0.1 at 2.59. Precious metals are down this morning. Gold is down -9.96 at 1457.25 per ounce. Platinum is down -8.63 at 881.97 while silver is down -0.18 at 16.77. The dollar is mixed compared to the major currencies today. The greenback is down against the euro, up against the Yen and down against the Pound.

Put/Call Ratio

Yesterday, 1,398,600 call contracts traded on the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) compared to 932,426 put contracts. The single-session put/call was 0.67 while the 20-day moving average is now at 0.67.
