Stocks Turn Lower Thursday: Airlines Surge, Tesla Rallies

During trading Thursday, 151 stocks traded to a 52-week high, while 201 stocks bottomed out at new 52-week lows. The S&P 500 is down 0.42% so far today while the Dow is up 0.06%, the Nasdaq is down 0.52%, and the Russell 2000 is down 1.39%.

Stocks turned lower Thursday afternoon. Cryptos are higher, with Bitcoin up 1.48% and Ethereum up 0.48%. Weekly jobless claims unexpectedly fell to 184,000 claims.

Tesla Inc (TSLA) is up 5.66% after blowing out earnings estimates. Tesla expects to have a strong finish to 2022 expecting a dip in production during the next quarter with the company's recently opened Giga Austin expected to continue to ramp up production throughout the year.

Meanwhile, airline ETF "JETS" is up 3.22% as airlines rally on continued strong earnings reports and guidance. This time on reports from United Airlines Holdings Inc (UAL) and American Airlines Group Inc (AAL) where both companies announced that they expect to return to profitability in the second quarter.

The Energy sector is underperforming the market, decreasing 1.55% so far on the day. Over the last month, the Energy sector has outperformed the market, increasing 9.58% while the S&P decreased 0.08%.
