Industrials, Energy Stocks Lead Highs; Stocks Mixed Tuesday Afternoon

During trading Tuesday, 56 stocks traded to a 52-week high, while 69 stocks bottomed out at new 52-week lows. The S&P 500 is down 0.04% so far today while the Dow is down 0.11%, the Nasdaq is up 0.13%, and the Russell 2000 is up 0.83%.

Stocks are mixed as major indices struggle to maintain a direction for the day. Commodity prices are remaining elevated today as oil hovers just below $81 per barrel, aluminum advanced to $3,064.00 per ton, and coal reached record prices in China as flooding shuts down operations in the Shanxi region, which provides up to 30% of China's coal supply. Lastly, Valvoline (VVV) is up 7.8% after the company announced in its earnings report that it will separate its retail services and global products businesses while it reaffirmed FY21 EPS guidance and slightly raised its FY21 revenue guidance.

Sector Highlights

Industrials stocks dominated our list of highs today with 11 out of the 56 total stocks that reached their high coming from the Industrials sector. The Industrials sector is underperforming the market, decreasing 0.06% so far on the day. Over the last month, the Industrials sector has outperformed the market, increasing 1.48% while the S&P decreased 2.18%.

Herc Holdings (HRI) is up 3.54% after being added to Bank of America's "Endeavor List" in the place of ITT.

Weatherford (WFRD) is up 15.51% after providing upside Q3 guidance that includes expectations for a 25% increase to adjusted EBITDA.
