The Market Week Ahead: Nov. 25 – Nov. 29

Nov. 25, 2019 - There are only three real days of stock market this week and things are likely to be pretty quiet.

Friday's session is largely a formality to keep up a tradition of not having the market closed for more than one business day in a row. This post-Thanksgiving abbreviated session is frequently the lowest volume day of the year.

Monday and Tuesday have a few big-name earnings reports, but at this point in the season, a big surprise is more likely to be a story about the underlying company than any signal about the broader economy.

The economic calendar is busy on Tuesday before being mostly dark for the rest of the week. inflation data may be interesting, but given the recent trends and the Federal Reserve's stance of seeming to want tangible changes to economic data before it makes another move, it seems like it will take a pretty big surprise to move the markets.

From at technical perspective, given the expectations of light volumes this week, things could drift further into new highs territory, or consolidate a bit.

The big question mark remains the trade situation. Headlines are positive to start the week, but we've been down this road before, and don't have a lot of confidence that they will stay that way all week.
