Tilly’s (TLYS) Record Holiday Sales Point to Likely Record Fourth-Quarter Results

Retail clothing firm Tilly’s, Inc. (TLYS) announced record holiday season sales (for 2021) on Jan. 10, 2022. The company believes these strong sales point to record fourth-quarter results. Before market open this morning, TLYS stock dropped 3.65%.

Record Holiday Period Sales

In a press release, Tilly’s announced record net sales results for the nine-week period ending on January 1, 2022. According to the company, “Total net sales of $173.3 million increased by 16.5% for the 2021 holiday period compared to $148.7 million for last year’s comparable nine-week holiday period ended January 2, 2021.”

CEO Comments

“Based on our strong 2021 holiday period results, we expect to report our most profitable fourth quarter since becoming a public company and our most profitable full fiscal year on record,” CEO Ed Thomas remarked. The firm believes favorable market conditions, plus a “compelling merchandise assortment” drove its record holiday sales.

In-Store Shopping Increases

More customers shopped in physical stores in 2021 compared to last year’s (2020) holiday period, which suffered from more restrictions stemming from COVID-19-related shutdowns and limited operating hours at the company's brick-and-mortar locations.
