Markets Point Higher as China Eases Yuan Concerns

Thursday, August 08, 2019 08:33 AM | Brad Spears

First Look

Stocks are slightly higher in the pre-market Thursday. The Nasdaq is leading the major indices. China's central bank set the yuan's daily fixing stronger than analysts expected Thursday, in what is potentially an attempt to ease growing concerns about a global currency war. The yuan's daily reference rate was set to 7.0039 per dollar, which is the first time since 2008 that it was fixed weaker than 7. President Trump continued calls for additional interest rate cuts in a series of tweets, saying that the " Federal Reserve that is too proud to admit their mistake of acting too fast and tightening too much". Crude oil fell to seven-month lows yesterday. The Nasdaq is up 0.41%, the S&P 500 is up 0.23%, the Dow Jones is up 0.13%.
