Markets Mixed as Tech Earnings Continue

First Look

Major indices are mixed in the pre-market Thursday. North Korea launched two short-range ballistic missiles from a previously known test site on the eastern part of the Korean Peninsula that traveled more than 267 miles before crashing into the sea Thursday. Shares of Facebook (FB) rose after the company's quarterly report topped analysts' expectations. Facebook will pay $5 billion to settle an FTC claim regarding privacy and user data. Facebook will pay an additional $100 million to settle an SEC claim that the company mislead investors regarding how it handled user data. Shares of Boeing (BA) fell after the company missed revenue expectations and announced that it will be slowing, and possibly halting, the production of the 737 Max airline. Tesla (TSLA) stock is down nearly 11% in the pre-market after reporting quarterly earnings. Amazon (AMZN), Alphabet (GOOGL), and Intel (INTC) are all scheduled to report earnings after the bell today. The Dow Jones is up 0.3%, the S&P 500 is up 0.11%, the Nasdaq is down -0.14%.

Stocks on the Move

3M Co (MMM), Facebook, Inc. Common Stock (FB) and Activision Blizzard, Inc. (ATVI) are moving higher this morning, while Align Technology, Inc. (ALGN), Ford Motor Company (F) and Southwest Airlines Co (LUV) are headed lower. United Parcel Service, Inc. (UPS), AT&T Inc. (T) and Activision Blizzard, Inc. (ATVI) were upgraded by analysts this morning, while PTC Inc (PTC), Electronic Arts Inc. (EA) and Spirit Airlines Incorporated (SAVE) were downgraded.

International Markets

Stocks in Asia are mixed. The Australia ASX All Ordinaries is up 0.58%, the Shanghai SE Composite Index is up 0.48%, the Nikkei 225 is up 0.22% the Hang Seng is up 0.19% and the Mumbai Sensex is down -0.04%. In Europe stocks are up. The Euro Stoxx 50 is up 0.82%, the CAC 40 is up 0.81%, the DAX is up 0.33% and the FTSE 100 is up 0.28%.

Futures & Currencies

Energy futures are up today. The price for West Texas Intermediate crude oil is up 0.82 at 56.7 per barrel. Brent crude is up 0.93 at 64.11 per barrel. Natural Gas is up 0.02 at 2.24. Precious metals are up this morning. Gold is up 6.18 at 1432.04 per ounce. Platinum is up 6.77 at 884.21 while silver is up 0.03 at 16.31. The dollar is mixed compared to the major currencies today. The greenback is up against the euro, down against the Yen and down against the Pound.

Put/Call Ratio

Yesterday, 1,033,192 call contracts traded on the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) compared to 684,552 put contracts. The single-session put/call was 0.66 while the 20-day moving average is now at 0.62.
