Futures Higher Tuesday; Walmart Shares Slide Following Disappointing Earnings

Tuesday, May 17, 2022 08:25 AM | Neal Farmer

First Look

Futures are pointed higher Tuesday morning with tech stocks leading gains during premarket trading. Retail sales are expected to have risen 0.9% in April following a 0.5% jump the previous month with economists predicting a much smaller increase of 0.3% when excluding autos. Meanwhile, Citigroup (C) shares are 5% higher after Warren Buffet's Berkshire Hathaway took a $3 billion stake stake in the financial institution. Shares of Walmart (WMT) are down 7% after the retailer missed on earnings estimates with higher costs and supply chain issues eating into the company's profit margin. Lastly, oil is up this morning with WTI and Brent crude both surpassing $115 a barrel. The Nasdaq is up 1.92%, the S&P is up 1.52%, the Dow Jones is up 1.17%.
