Small Caps Outperform Broader Market; 346 Stocks Hit New Highs

During trading Tuesday, 346 stocks traded to a 52-week high, while 1 stocks bottomed out at new 52-week lows. The S&P 500 is up 0.1% so far today while the Dow is up 0.21% and the Nasdaq is up 0.26%. Despite these large indices showing mixed-to-no returns today, the Russell 2000 has had a strong day with the small-cap indice rallying 1.27% so far today. Helping push the small-cap stocks higher is a mix of optimism surrounding vaccination progress and hopes that further stimulus to help a slowing economic recovery will be streamlined under a Democrat led Congress and White House. This has also helped Banks, Airlines and other stocks for reopening higher today, while Twitter, Facebook, and the Interactive Media & Services industry as a whole have fallen.

The Technology sector is underperforming the market, decreasing -0.4% so far on the day. Over the last month the Technology sector has underperformed the market, decreasing 4.22% while the S&P increased 4.27%. Acacia Communications (ACIA) reached highs after issuing upside Quarter 4 guidance and filing a countersuit against Cisco (CSCO) in regards to their $2.6 billion merger.
