During trading Tuesday, 23 stocks traded to a 52-week high, while 317 stocks bottomed out at new 52-week lows. The S&P 500 is down 1.71% so far today while the Dow is down 1.68%, the Nasdaq is down 1.47%, and the Russell 2000 is down 2.12%.
Markets are down big Tuesday after a small recovery to start the week following Friday’s slide as a result of the appearance of the Omicron variant in South Africa. Various countries have since reported cases as officials accelerate research to determine how the virus spreads and how dangerous it may be. Meanwhile, Consumer Confidence fell more than economists predicted with a decline from 111.6 to 109.5 verse expectations for a 111.0 reading.

Technology stocks dominated our list of highs today with 13 out of the 23 total stocks that reached their high coming from the Technology sector. The Technology sector is outperforming the market, decreasing 1.01% so far on the day. Over the last month the Technology sector has outperformed the market, increasing 2.83% while the S&P decreased 0.79%.
Tech stocks have the most highs Tuesday with the sector accounting for over one-half of the only 23 stocks to reach a new peak.
The Healthcare sector makes up the majority of our 52-week lows, as 116 out of our 317 lows comes from the Healthcare sector. The Healthcare sector is outperforming the market today, decreasing 1.48% so far on the day. Over the last month the Healthcare sector has underperformed the market, decreasing 3.74% while the S&P decreased 0.79%.
Healthcare has by far the most 52-week lows Tuesday as the sector accounted for over one-third of the total market lows set today as healthcare stocks are now nearly 4% lower over the past month.
