Healthcare, Tech Stocks Lead Highs Friday Following Best Jobs Report In 10 Months

During trading Friday, 71 stocks traded to a 52-week high, while 6 stocks bottomed out at new 52-week lows. The S&P 500 is up 0.61% so far today while the Dow is up 0.45%, the Nasdaq is up 0.64%, and the Russell 2000 is down 0.79%.

Stocks are rising Friday afternoon. Nonfarm payrolls saw 850,000 jobs added back to the economy in June, its largest increase in 10 months. Meanwhile, Virgin Galactic (SPCE) is up sharply today after announcing that founder Richard Branson will be aboard the next test flight of its SpaceShipTwo Unity.

Sector Highlights

Healthcare stocks dominated our list of highs today with 19 out of the 71 total stocks that reached their high coming from the Healthcare sector. The Healthcare sector is trading even with the market, increasing 0.61% so far on the day. Over the last month the Healthcare sector has outperformed the market, increasing 3.14% while the S&P increased 2.76%.

Shares of Alector (ALEC) are surging 53.68% after the company announced a global collaboration with GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) for the development and commercialization of AL001 and AL101 for neurodegenerative diseases. Meanwhile, Apellis Pharmaceuticals (APLS) is on highs following yesterday's announcement that it will collaborate with BEAM to create proprietary base editing technology.

The Technology sector is outperforming the market today, increasing 1.15% so far on the day. Over the last month the Technology sector has outperformed the market, increasing 7.01% while the S&P increased 2.76%.

Accenture (ACN) is up 1.27% following yesterday's announcement that it has acquired CS Technology. Meanwhile NVIDIA (NVDA) is up 0.8% after BMO Capital Markets raised its price target to a Street-High target of $1000 per share.
