Financial Services Leads List of New 52-Week Highs; Healthcare Leads Lows

During trading Tuesday, 96 stocks traded to a 52-week high, while 22 stocks bottomed out at new 52-week lows. The S&P 500 is up 0.16% so far today while the Dow is down 0.47%, the Nasdaq is up 0.78%, and the Russell 2000 is down 0.96%.

Stocks are mixed Tuesday as tech stocks outperform and small-caps drag behind. The FDA and CDC recommended that the Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) vaccine be paused following medical complications with 6 individuals following administration of the vaccine. Core CPI data showed its highest growth in nearly 9 years, increasing 0.6% from the prior month on estimates for a 0.5% advance. Lastly, Bitcoin is continuing to set record highs, surpassing the $63,000 mark as the crypto rallies 4.7%.

Sector Highlights

Financial Services stocks dominated our list of highs today with 20 out of the 96 total stocks that reached their high coming from the Financial Services sector. The Financial Services sector is underperforming the market, decreasing 0.99% so far on the day. Over the last month the Financial Services sector has underperformed the market, decreasing 2.85% while the S&P increased 4.79%.

Aon (AON) is on highs after introducing a new solution which provides supply chain protection for covid-19 vaccine shipments through broad industry collaboration. Meanwhile, Blackstone (BX) reached highs announcing it will acquire Sabre Industries from The Jordan Company for an undisclosed amount. Additionally, Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) announced that ICE Benchmark Administration Limited launched ICE SONIA Indexes following a succesful testing period. Lastly, B. Riley Financial (RILY) jumped after it was announced that it will join the S&P SmallCap 600.

The Healthcare sector makes up the majority of our 52-week lows, as 21 out of our 22 lows comes from the Healthcare sector. The Healthcare sector is underperforming the market today, increasing 0.15% so far on the day. Over the last month the Healthcare sector has underperformed the market, increasing 3.43% while the S&P increased 4.79%.

Homology Medicines (FIXX) is on lows today following on yesterday’s promotion of Tim Kelly to Chihef Operating Officer (COO), after formerly holding the Chief Technical Operations Officer position. Meanwhile, iRhythm (IRTC) is on lows following a downgrade to Neutral from Buy at BTIG Research.
