AAWW, APO Lead Highs Wednesday As Stocks Advance

During trading Wednesday, 262 stocks traded to a 52-week high, while 16 stocks bottomed out at new 52-week lows. The S&P 500 is up 0.38% so far today while the Dow is up 0.53%, the Nasdaq is up 0.11%, and the Russell 2000 is up 0.23%.

Stocks are trading higher Wednesday. April ADP Employment change grew at a slower pace than expected, adding 742,000 jobs to the private sector on expectations for 810,000 jobs. Meanwhile, the ISM Non-Manufacturing Index also grew at a slower pace than expected with a reading of 62.7% on expectations for a reading of 65%.

Sector Highlights

Financial Services stocks dominated our list of highs today with 62 out of the 262 total stocks that reached their high coming from the Financial Services sector. The Financial Services sector is outperforming the market, increasing 1.16% so far on the day. Over the last month the Financial Services sector has outperformed the market, increasing 6.36% while the S&P increased 3.6%.

Arthur J. Gallagher (AJG) stock is on highs following yesterday’s acquisition of Bayonne by its risk management services subsidiary Gallagher Basset Services. Meanwhile, Apollo Global Management (APO) is on highs following yesterday’s earnings beat where it reported earnings of $0.65 per share on estimates for $0.54.

The Industrials sector is outperforming the market today, increasing 0.52% so far on the day. Over the last month the Industrials sector has outperformed the market, increasing 4.63% while the S&P increased 3.6%.

Atlas Air Worldwide (AAWW) is on highs after beating earnings estimates, reporting earnings of $2.45 per share on estimates for $1.72 per share.
