52-Week Lows Outpace Highs Thursday as Markets Fall

During trading Thursday, 3 stocks traded to a 52-week high, while 24 stocks bottomed out at new 52-week lows. The S&P 500 is down 0.6% so far today while the Dow is down 0.37%, the Nasdaq is down 0.87%, and the Russell 2000 is down 0.96%.

Stocks are lower Thursday while cryptocurrencies are flat on the day. The European Central Bank (ECB) confirmed its plan for a 25 basis point interest rate increase in July that will go along with the halting of bond purchases in an effort to control inflation. The rate hike will be the first in 11 years for the ECB. In the United States, initial unemployment claims rose more than expected, jumping from 202,000 to 229,000 claims while analysts had predicted a smaller rise to 208,000 claims. Lastly, shares of Nio Inc. (NIO) are down 7.46% despite the EV company surpassing earnings projections but issued downbeat guidance.

Consumer Defensive was tied with the Healthcare and Consumer Cyclical sectors for the grand total of one stock each hitting a 52-week high as markets are nowhere near the highs set back at the end of 2021.
