52-Week Highs Edge Out Lows Tuesday; Markets Rebound

During trading Tuesday, 97 stocks traded to a 52-week high, while 95 stocks bottomed out at new 52-week lows. The S&P 500 is up 1.39% so far today while the Dow is up 1.34%, the Nasdaq is up 1.56%, and the Russell 2000 is up 0.54%.

Markets are up big Tuesday following a rough start to the week yesterday. The 52-week highs just barely outpaced lows today as the market has pulled back recently with the S&P 500 down over 5% the past month. Shares of PepsiCo (PEP) are higher today after the firm reported better than expected earnings and revenue, while also raising its full year revenue guidance. Meanwhile, Facebook (FB) stock has rebounded slightly after yesterday’s crash as a result of an extended network shutdown yesterday.

Sector Highlights

Energy stocks dominated our list of highs today with 33 out of the 97 total stocks that reached their high coming from the Energy sector. The Energy sector is underperforming the market, increasing 0.5% so far on the day. Over the last month the Energy sector has outperformed the market, increasing 13.61% while the S&P decreased 5.21%.

Energy stocks have the most highs Tuesday as the sector is up again, bringing the sector’s growth above 13% the past month. Energy has completely overperformed the market as traders once again go back to the reopening trade.

The Healthcare sector makes up the majority of our 52-week lows, as 41 out of our 95 lows comes from the Healthcare sector. The Healthcare sector is underperforming the market today, increasing 1.01% so far on the day. Over the last month the Healthcare sector has underperformed the market, decreasing 8.05% while the S&P decreased 5.21%.

Healthcare stocks have the most lows today as the sector continues to disappoint recently with the it trading down 8% over the past month while the S&P 500 has “only” dropped roughly 5%.
