181 Stocks Hit New Highs; Credit Suisse Takes $4.7 Billion Hit Over Archegos Fallout

During trading Tuesday, 181 stocks traded to a 52-week high, while 1 stocks bottomed out at new 52-week lows. The S&P 500 is up 0.05% so far today while the Dow is down 0.14%, the Nasdaq is up 0.16%, and the Russell 2000 is up 0.32%.

Markets are mixed Tuesday as stocks related to Archegos are rebounding after falling during premarket trading. Stocks such as ViacomCBS (VIAC) fell before market open on news that Credit Suisse has taken a $4.7 billion hit from the Archegos Capital Management fallout and were engaging in block traded totaling more than $2 billion. A ruling by the Senate will allow Democrats to reopen budget plans thus allowing Biden’s infrastructure stimulus bill to be passed through budget resolution.

Sector Highlights

Industrials stocks dominated our list of highs today with 51 out of the 181 total stocks that reached their high coming from the Industrials sector. The Industrials sector is outperforming the market, increasing 0.08% so far on the day. Over the last month the Industrials sector has outperformed the market, increasing 8.13% while the S&P increased 6.76%.

Industrial stocks are once again atop the list as the sector is up over 8% the past month of trading with the economy reopened and vaccines distributed at a growing rate.

Consumer Cyclical had the second largest presence on our 52-week highs, with 31 out of 181 highs coming from the Consumer Cyclical sector. The Consumer Cyclical sector is outperforming the market today, increasing 0.5% so far on the day. Over the last month the Consumer Cyclical sector has outperformed the market, increasing 8.65% while the S&P increased 6.76%.
