179 Stocks Hit New Highs Thursday; Continuing Unemployment Claims Fall to 7.29 Million

During trading Thursday, 179 stocks traded to a 52-week high, while 9 stocks bottomed out at new 52-week lows. The S&P 500 is up 2.29% on the day so far Markets are up big yet again on Thursday as investors process more Election results along with new unemployment numbers. Initial claims fell to 751,000 last week while continuing claims dropped to 7.29 million the week before. Despite high new COVID cases, the consistent decline in unemployment claims along with a likely divided government has investors very bullish.

Technology stocks dominated our list of highs today with 54 out of the 179 total stocks that reached their high coming from the Technology sector. The Technology sector is up 3.14% so far Thursday while the S&P 500 is up 2.29%. The Technology sector is leading Thursday's strong trading with its stocks accounting for just about 30% of the day's highs. The biggest stocks are still not at their highs from back in early September but the small and mid cap companies are surpassing previous peaks. A likely divided government headed by candidate Joe Biden has investors even more bullish on this sector going forward.

The Healthcare sector had the second largest presence on our 52-week highs, with 44 out of 179 highs coming from the Healthcare sector. The Healthcare sector is up 0.4% so far Thursday while the S&P 500 2.29% Healthcare has the second most highs today even though it is underperforming the rest of the market. While the sector is only up less than half a percent it was up over 5% yesterday resulting in many stocks already being near or at highs to start the day. Tech is leading today but Healthcare seemed to be the biggest winner yesterday in the midst of Election numbers coming in..
