Morning Update for September 13, 2017

First Look

Stocks are lower Wednesday morning after a multi-day rally pushed major indices to new highs. A two-day rally in the dollar also seems to be over, while Treasury yields are relatively unchanged. The Dow Jones is down -0.05%, the S&P 500 is down -0.1%, the Nasdaq is down -0.19%.

Stocks on the Move

Nordstrom, Inc. (JWN), XL Group Ltd. (XL) and Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co (HPE) are moving higher this morning, while Freeport-McMoRan Inc (FCX), Consolidated Edison, Inc. (ED) and KLA-Tencor Corp (KLAC) are headed lower. CRH PLC (ADR) (CRH), EOG Resources Inc (EOG) and Micron Technology, Inc. (MU) were upgraded by analysts this morning, while Diageo plc (ADR) (DEO), Canadian Pacific Railway Limited (USA) (CP) and Rockwell Collins, Inc. (COL) were downgraded.

International Markets

Stocks in Asia are mixed. The Nikkei 225 is up 0.45%, the Shanghai SE Composite Index is up 0.14%, the Mumbai Sensex is up 0.09% the Australia ASX All Ordinaries is down -0.04% and the Hang Seng is down -0.28%.In Europe stocks are mixed. The DAX is up 0.14%, the CAC 40 is up 0.02%, the Euronext 100 is down -0.01% and the FTSE 100 is down -0.25%.

Futures and Currencies

Energy futures are up today. The price for West Texas Intermediate crude oil is up 0.45 at 48.68 per barrel. Brent crude is up 0.45 at 54.72 per barrel. Natural Gas is up 0.04 at 3.05. Precious metals are mixed this morning. Gold is up 5.1 at 1332.76 per ounce. Platinum is down -4 at 985.82 while silver is up 0.1 at 17.99. The dollar is mixed compared to the major currencies today. The greenback is down against the euro, down against the Yen and up against the Pound.

Put/Call Ratio

Yesterday, 999,284 call contracts traded on the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) compared to 580,890 put contracts. The single-session put/call was 0.58 while the 20-day moving average is now at 0.63.
