Morning Update: Major Indices Rising Ahead of the Bell

First Look

Stocks are rising ahead of President Trump’s meeting with Liu He, one of China’s top trade negotiators, scheduled for this afternoon. Investors seem optimistic as trade talks continue, with many viewing the meeting between the two as a positive sign. The Mar. 1 deadline on additional tariffs on Chinese goods may be extended if headway can be made on memorandums of understanding regarding agriculture, services, technology, and intellectual property. China has proposed purchasing more than $30 billion in agricultural products as part of a deal. Pressure is mounting on both sides to make a deal. The Nasdaq is down -0.07%, the S&P 500 is down -0.22%, the Dow Jones is down -0.25%.
