Strong earnings boost world markets

U.S. markets are moving up Tuesday after a mixed finish on Monday. The S&P 500 is up 0.11% and the Dow is up 0.18%. The Conference Board will release the July Consumer Confidence Index at 10:00 AM today.

In Asia, markets were mostly up as Japanese stocks rose on strong corporate earnings reports. The Hang Seng was up 0.87% while the Nikkei was up 0.57%.

Solid earnings also lifted European markets this morning, despite tougher sanctions on Russia. The FTSE is up 0.44%, and the German DAX is up 0.56%.

Energy futures are mixed today. The West Texas Intermediate crude oil price per barrel is at $101.04, down $0.63 and natural gas is up $0.02. Metals prices are mostly up today. Gold is up $4.20, and platinum is up $0.50. The Dollar is up against the Euro and the Yen.
