Stocks up, caution remains on election day

 

Major indices are up at mid-day Tuesday. Investors remain cautious in anticipation of the market’s reaction to the results of today’s midterm elections. 

At present, the S&P 500 is up 0.37%, the DJIA is up 0.38%, and the NASDAQ is up 0.53%.

Industries doing well today include Construction Materials, Real Estate Management & Development, and Construction & Engineering. Industries showing weakness include Textiles, Apparel & Luxury Goods, Airlines, and Banks. The VIX is up 0.21 to 20.17 after the previous close of 19.96. The most heavily traded options this morning are for the iShares iBoxx $ High Yid Corp Bond ETF (HYG), with 25,000 Jan 18 85 puts on the board. The total put/call ratio as of 10:00 AM was 1.14 (304,316/266,987). The advancers/decliners ratio for NYSE stocks is 1,763/1,113 while the advancers/decliners ratio for NASDAQ stocks is 1,803/1,149.
