Stocks try to bounce

 

Stocks are up at mid-day Tuesday. Major indices gapped down at the open this morning after Treasury yields hit seven-year highs, but the market is trying to rebound.

At present, the S&P 500 is up 0.25%, the DJIA is up 0.02%, and the NASDAQ is up 0.66%.

Industries doing well today include Multiline Retail, Software, and Hotels, Restaurants & Leisure. Industries showing weakness include Containers & Packaging, Automobiles, and Building Products. The VIX is down 0.15 to 15.54 after the previous close of 15.69. The most heavily traded options this morning are for the Ishares Lehman 20 Year (TLT), with 9,534 Oct 19 116 puts on the board. The total put/call ratio as of 10:00 AM was 1.05 (294,855/281,245). The advancers/decliners ratio for NYSE stocks is 1,686/1,212, while the advancers/decliners ratio for NASDAQ stocks is 1,698/1,226.
