Stocks down prior to FOMC Minutes

 

Major indices are down at mid-day Tuesday preceding the FOMC Minutes release this afternoon. Netflix (NFLX) is the main bright spot of the session, trading higher on significant growth in their international subscriber base.

At present, the S&P 500 is down 0.75%, the DJIA is down 1.02%, and the NASDAQ is down 0.76%.

Industries doing well today include Airlines, Entertainment, and Pharmaceuticals. Industries showing weakness include Construction Materials, Specialty Retail, and Distributors. The VIX is up 1.06 to 18.61 after the previous close of 17.62. The most heavily traded options this morning are for the General Electric (GE), with 4,125 Jan 18 15 calls on the board. The total put/call ratio as of 11:00 AM was 1.31 (933,078/712,917). The advancers/decliners ratio for NYSE stocks is 592/2,310, while the advancers/decliners ratio for NASDAQ stocks is 717/2,229.
