Market sinks, rebounds


Stocks are mixed at mid-day Wednesday. British Prime Minister Theresa May is facing backlash over Brexit deal with the European Union after cabinet ministers resign. The United States and China continue trade talks, but uncertainty remains high on whether or not the two countries can come to an agreement regarding additional tariffs.  Walmart (WMT) is down 2.7% from the open even though the company beat earnings expectations.

At present, the S&P 500 is up 0.08%, the DJIA is down 0.23%, and the NASDAQ is up 0.48%.

Industries doing well today include Communications Equipment, Energy Equipment & Services, and Semiconductors & Semiconductor Equipment. Industries showing weakness include Automobiles, Auto Components, and Multiline Retail. The VIX is up 0.06 to 21.19 after the previous close of 21.25. The most heavily traded options this morning are for the Invesco QQQ Trust Series 1 ETF (QQQ), with 24,850 Dec 21 144 puts on the board. The total put/call ratio as of 10:00 AM was 1.50 (383,530/255,501). The advancers/decliners ratio for NYSE stocks is 890/2,045 while the advancers/decliners ratio for NASDAQ stocks is 1,443/1,156.
