Major indices undecided ahead of midterm elections

 

Stocks are mixed at mid-day Monday ahead of the midterm elections tomorrow. Apple (AAPL) is down 3.00% from Friday’s close, adding to their post-earnings loss and helping to pull the tech sector into the red. 

At present, the S&P 500 is up 0.37%, the DJIA is up 0.53%, and the NASDAQ is down 1.01%.

Industries doing well today include Diversified Financial Services, Construction & Engineering, and Energy Equipment & Services. Industries showing weakness include Technology Hardware, Storage & Peripherals, Personal Products, and Auto Components. The VIX is up 0.82 to 20.33 after the previous close of 19.51. The most heavily traded options this morning are for the SPDR S&P 500 Trust ETF (SPY), with 10,817 Dec 21 278 calls on the board. The total put/call ratio as of 10:00 AM was 0.86 (266,992/311,087). The advancers/decliners ratio for NYSE stocks is 1,902/999, while the advancers/decliners ratio for NASDAQ stocks is 1,390/1,609.
