Investors look to extend Thursday rally

After rallying at Thursday’s close, U.S. stocks are moving up Friday morning. The S&P 500 is up 1.38% and the Dow is up 1.14%. The number of U.S. housing starts rose to 1,017,000 in September from 957,000 in August.

Asian markets were mixed Friday with Japanese markets continuing their fall. The Nikkei was down 1.40% and the Hang Seng rose 0.53%.

In Europe, stocks are climbing this morning. The FTSE is up 0.84%, and the DAX rising 1.69%. 

Energy futures are mixed Thursday. The price for West Texas Intermediate crude oil is $83.74 per barrel, up $1.04  while natural gas is down $0.03. Metals prices have mixed results so far this morning. Gold is down $0.80 and platinum is up $10.60. The Dollar is down versus the Euro and up versus the Yen.

Noble Energy, Inc. (NBL), Halcon Resources Corp. (HK) and Himax Technologies, Inc. (HIMX), are early gainers, while Urban Outfitters Inc. (URBN), Cliffs Natural Resources Inc. (CLF) and Sears Holdings Corporation(SHLD) are falling.
