Dogs of the Dow win the race again!

Note: This is part one of a two part series

We have been following the Dogs of the Dow all year long, and now that 2016 has come to a close it is time to tally up the returns for each stock in the group, and see how it compares to the overall Dow Jones.

The stocks in 2016’s Dogs of the Dow were strong all year, and wound up closing out the year with an average gain of 20.2% (including dividends). By comparison, the Dow Jones appreciated by 13.4% during the year, so the gap was rather significant between the overall market and the ten stocks in the last year’s Dogs of the Dow.

What is most impressive about the group’s performance over the last twelve months is that each stock in the group finished the year in positive territory.

We want to take one last look back on 2016, and see how each stock contributed to the group’s overall performance.

In this article we will look back at the first five stocks in the group, so be sure to check back tomorrow when we wrap up our annual review by taking a closer look at the remaining five stocks that made up 2016’s Dogs of the Dow.
