1) What Unusual Stealth Change In The Workforce Could Affect Us All? + Lee’s take on ADM, UPS, CLX, DOW, CSCO, MCHP, DAL, LUV, CAL, KO, and SBUX.

What earnings season would be complete without looking a little closer at what could be the largest expense item for most companies?  Labor…

Smart CFOs from companies like Archer Daniels Midland (ADM), United Parcel Service (UPS), and Clorox (CLX) bury a chunk of their salaries, wages, and labor costs in Profit/Loss line items like “marketing”, “cost of goods”, “overhead” and one of my favorites, “essential corporate shower curtains”.  But no matter how you shuffle the company cost cards, money spent in the form of paychecks is usually the largest expense item.

Over the years, as companies like Dow Chemical (DOW), Cisco (CSCO), and Microchip Technology (MCHP) have exported large amounts of manufacturing overseas, virtually idling most of the workforce living in states like Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Indiana, less of these labor costs are for red blooded Americans toiling on some factory floor.  These are the people we usually think about when we hear the word Union.

But… Things have changed, and maybe not for the good…

Click Here  for some surprising facts Lee has discovered about labor unions…
