1) What Important Story Has Been Buried By Earnings Season Noise? + Lee’s take on MSFT, PFE, ERTS, NYT, AAPL, F, TM, WMT, BBY, TIF, C, BAC, WFC, ALL, HIG, and PGR

While most investors are waiting around for earnings releases from companies like Microsoft (MSFT), Pfizer (PFE) and Electronic Arts (ERTS), I was wandering around the office in search of a way to waste a few hours. That’s when I saw a New York Times (NYT) newspaper on someone's desk open to a page talking about how China is growing so fast. The article went on boasting about how China has passed Germany and is about to pass Japan. The country has even catapulted to the number-one car market in the world.
|
Wow… How could this be? To cut costs, is the New York Times off-shoring their reporting to Chinese writers?
But then I remembered what we all said when we saw those earnings numbers from Enron and our old friend Bernie Madoff. We believed then until reality reared its ugly head.
|
 |
What happens when all these Chinese people
upgrade to cars, pickups, and SUVs? |
You know there has to be more to this China story, so
I dug in and did my customary fifteen seconds of research and found some interesting pseudo-facts. After this article I will probably not be able to safely eat Chinese take-out for a long, long time...
