Earnings season continues this week and, on Tuesday, two stocks that are both part of an industry we like report results. The industry in question is online brokers and, while TD Ameritrade (AMTD) reports before the market opens on Tuesday, E*Trade Financial (EFTC) reports after the close that same day.

I will have two very different trades at the end of this article - one for each company - with a very different profit potential for each position.

The stock market's meteoric rise over the past eight months has caused many investors and traders to come back to the market. Trading volumes declined late last year as a malaise set in and the indices kept getting pushed lower and lower.
